Intro to Basic Bike Fitting with Fit Kit

You may have heard of the Fit Kit and have a vague idea of what we’re all about, but don’t have a clear understanding of what we strive to accomplish. Our goal is to help you find a safe developmental starting position on your bike. Whether you are a recreational bike rider or an elite athlete, you should be properly fit for your bike.

The Fit Kit is a collection of precision measuring tools and a compilation of tables developed over twenty years of research, using as its basis, a wide cross-section of bike riders from recreational to elite level. In the Fit Kit, we have developed a concise, efficient and trainable means of obtaining a bike rider’s body measurements and personal information including your riding preferences, age and flexibility.

This information can then be used to determine your three main contact points with your bike: the pedals, the saddle and the handlebars. These three fit points or zones can then be translated into a frame and components that will accommodate these points of contact.

The riding position Fit Kit recommends is safe and developmental. This information can also be used effectively to solve common fitting problems such as stress or discomfort that you may have experienced on your bike. Fit Kit Dealers are professional, caring individuals who love to ride bikes like you, and they have taken the time to learn our effective fitting system to help you experience the same joy in riding your bike.

Cyclists Comment on the Fit Kit

Vic Armijo, Mountain Biking

“…before buying some new piece of CNC-anodized bike candy, consider investing your hard-earned bucks on something that can really increase your performance and cycling comfort. Have yourself Fit Kitted. The 40/50 bucks is cheap insurance against having your riding pleasure turned into knee agony and expensive medical attention. If your shop doesn’t have a Fit Kit, ask them, ‘Why not?’”

“I’m a new customer at Bob’s Bicycle Shop in Indian Harbour Beach, Florida – heard it was very roadie friendly (it is!). Employee Earl Bradley suggested a Fit Kit quick fit after replacing my cranks with Shimano Hollow Tech. We also agreed my Eddy Merckx Century frame (primary bike) may be too small. I even purchased a larger frame (back-up bike) which soon became the primary. I also figured the shorter cranks would make my back pain and radial numbness go away. I also sort of resigned myself to the fact that I would be forced to sell the Merckx. I just returned from a pain-free ride. I’m ecstatic – the Fit Kit really works.”

“I went to a store that recently purchased your system, less the cleat alignment kit (RAD Kit) and was fitted by my good friend. I must admit that I had my bike previously fit by a high level triathlete in the southern United States about 3 weeks before my friend checked my positions. The position the high level triathlete set me up in was near perfect for me.

“My friend performed the Fit Kit setup on my road bike and I am happy to say that the Fit Kit matched almost exactly what the high level triathlete had setup. Seat height was to the exact mm. The only variance was a 1-2 mm movement of the seat backwards. The correction was made. The Fit Kit and my friend proved to be even more accurate.

“The printed measurement sheet has also allowed me to setup my remaining bikes to my friend’s Fit Kit recommendations and my performance and comfort on all my bikes is much improved, shocking everyone including myself. My race results thus far prove the benefit of your system.”

“P.S. – I have recommended getting fit with the fitting system to friends and have also informed other local bike shops of its accuracy and benefit.”
